Below see an image I created of some quotes that have inspired me lately:
My favorite quote here is from Helen Keller:
“I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.”
I think about this quote often. Whenever I see something I wish was better, whenever I wish people would do the right thing, to keep from feeling overwhelmed, to avoid that feeling – of “oh well there’s nothing I can do about it” – I remember what Helen Keller said. She was blind – and look at all she did for the world! Pretty amazing – we have two legs, a mind, a soul, breath, there is so much we CAN do. We have to BELIEVE we can. The power is within us.What do you want to change? What puts a fire in your belly? Don’t ignore it. Or as she said – BECAUSE I CANNOT DO EVERYTHING I WILL NOT REFUSE TO DO SOMETHING THAT I CAN DO.
So what can you do, today, now, to make a difference? The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. I know it is hard – to think about things that need to be FIXED – the way people treat animals, the environment, corporations, the list goes on. I have been reading so many amazing books, going to so many amazing events, and watching so many amazing documentaries. I left a life behind and am 3000 miles away to do something. And this website, it’s a step.
I wish to share, with you, friend, some inspiration- some encouragement – some LOVE – to do what is in your HEART to help the EARTH and to help each OTHER – like NAS SAID -
all i need is one mic -
What is it going to take for you to realize what it is you really WANT – I lost a friend – that is what changed me – that is what woke up the spiritual SOUL within. And it’s writing I think about all the time. I just needed some courage, some belief to finally start doing it! SO here I am. A single step. What I would typically write on post its that would get crumpled up and thrown at a bottom of a purse, well I am going to write it here. Just putting on some Lauryn Hill and sharing thoughts with you.
Here is a beautiful lyric from Tupac, from Ghetto Gospel, that I think of a lot too:
“If I upset you don’t stress, neva forget God isnt finished with me yet~
I feel His hand on my brain when I write rhymes I go blind and let the Lord do his thing.”
And another QUOTE that awoke SOMETHING in me,
that CHANGED me for the BETTER is by the beautiful, amazing, Marianne Williamson.
I got to tell her to her face that this quote changed my life. That she is one of my HEROES – here it is:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
